Jed Azinger and his brother found their calling in golf. His older brother, Paul, was a star on the PGA Tour and Captain of the 1998 U.S.A. winning Ryder Cup Team
At 19, Jed, a Sarasota, Florida, resident started working on a maintenance crew at a golf course in Naples, Florida. There he discovered work that he loved.
He enrolled in the golf course operations program at Lake City Community College in Florida, and earned a degree with honors in 1987. After graduation, he became an assistant superintendent at Quail Creek Golf Club in Naples before becoming a head superintendent at Naples Shores Country Club. He then went on to similar position at the Lely Resort Flamingo course where he had the chance to work with golf architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr., the architect, during the initial building phases of the project.
Jed realized that all the jobs he had worked at involved some aspect of golf course construction. Golf design seemed like it would be the next logical big move in his career, and it happened sooner than he would have imagined. .
Jed pooled his talents and resources with his brother Paul and their father Ralph in 1990 to form Paul Azinger Course Design. In 1993, having other full-time interests and fighting recently diagnosed cancer, Paul sold his share of the business to his brother, Jed, for $1.00.
Shortly thereafter, Jed hooked up with golf course designer Gordy Lewis and the two combined talents and energy designing and building golf courses for over a decade.
